Mileage adjustment is very common these days, even in abroad, car mileage are adjusted too but most cars shipped to Nigeria have had their mileage adjusted here or there
You would want to know why it is so
Well, the problem is from the buyers, you want to buy a 20 years old car and you want it to have less than 50,000 miles
How can a 20 years old car that was used by more than 3-4 people have this very low mileage?
I’m not saying it’s not possible to see such car with very low mileage, but it’s very rare
A 20 years old car with 50K original mileage should have some conditions that kept it at 50K
Normally, the mileage should be betwixt 150-170K
So it’s because of how car buyers are too conscious of the mileage that made most people to have their cars mileage adjusted
You cannot buy a car with original mileage of 170K at let’s say 3.5M but when the mileage is reduced from 170K to 50K then you pay 3.9M
Who cheated who??
Also most car dealers are greedy, you want to sell a car with 250K miles at the same price with a 105K miles car
So if you’re going to buy a Tokumbo car, choose a mileage between 50-145K if the car is above 15 years but less than 6 years old car can have 15000 and above
It’s also very important to know how to do a Mileage check on a car before buying so you don’t go buy a car with adjusted mileage
There are so many ways to check for mileage adjustment but the tips are for my students only
While focusing on the mileage, remember a car with 250K mileage may have better performance and was properly maintained than a car with 50K mileage so consider other factors too
Photos below was taken last year when conducting mileage adjustment on a Toyota Camry 2012
Buyer refused buying initially because of 180K mileage, only to be called back that another car is available, he came, checked the mileage and paid higher than already bargained because current mileage was reduced to 103K or so
He never knew it was same car
N/B: I don’t do Mileage Adjustment 👌
